In order to follow the course Italian level 8 you need to be able to speak Italian fluently and with ease. You also need to be able to write various types of text and who have an extensive passive knowledge of Italian.
During Italian level 8 you will further expand your Italian skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Intake
The intake procedure for this course consists of: online intake conversation.
After you have enrolled for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure.
If you have completed the Italian level 7 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
Course content
After this course, you will be able to speak easily and freely, even on difficult topics. You will find it easy to take part in discussions and debates, giving your opinion spontaneously and without prior preparation, responding to the points raised by your interlocutor. Your vocabulary will continue to expand. You can use metaphors and synonyms with ease, in written texts and conversations.
After this course your passive language skills (listening and reading) are very extensive, you can read Italian literature with ease. You listening skills enable you to understand conferences, speeches and academic presentations. You understand almost everything you see on the television or hear on the radio.
Grammar covered during the course will include the use of the congiuntivo (subjunctive) and speaking about the future using the futurosemplice and futuro anteriore. You will also learn more ways to use the gerundio, participio, infinito and imperativo and attention will be paid to the various meanings of the word mica.
Certificate
You will complete the course with an oral and written exam.
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate showing the level you have attained and you will be able to continue to Italian level 9.
Course material
The course material is not included in the course price. If you choose to follow lessons in class, you can buy your books through us. You then receive them during the first lesson. If you are going to take an online course, you will buy the books yourself.

What is included in the price of a group course?
The course price includes:
- an intake
- the group course
- an exam
- (if necessary) a resit. You can take the resit within six months after finishing the course.
- a certificate
The course material is not included in the course price.
What is the difference between an online and in class course? Can I combine an online and in class course?
There is no difference in the course content and course material between the online and in class course, only a difference in format. The online courses take place via Zoom and the in class courses at the Roeterseiland in Amsterdam. By using breakout-rooms teachers will aim to provide the same interaction as during an in class course. In both formats students are expected to actively participate in the course.
The choice for an online or in class course depends on your personal preference for location and teaching style.
It is not possible to combine an online and in class course. If you start a course online, you will follow the entire course online. The same applies to in class courses. This is in order to ensure the peace in our classes and avoid a lot of changes between classes.
How much time should I expect to spend on studying by myself?
Students generally need to spend double the amount of time of the course on studying by themselves. This means that if your course is 40 hours of class, you can expect about 80 hours of homework and self study. In our experience, the more time you invest in homework, the more you benefit from your course.
Which teacher will teach my group course?
In the week before the start of the course you will receive your final course confirmation which mentions your teacher.
