Dutch beginners 1 for students
Course information
'Going Dutch' is the affordable beginner's course for students who want to start speaking Dutch. You'll use the same materials and learn from the same teachers as on our regular beginner's course. The difference: you're in a group of 15 to 20 students, and the course finishes without an exam. That's what makes it cheaper. Talking about ‘going Dutch’, right?
By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
• introduce yourself and talk about your studies, your home and your hobbies
• follow someone speaking slow, clear Dutch
• order in a café and read the signs on the street and at the station
Some of the teaching is in English, so you'll need English at B1 level to take this course.

Cursusinhoud
On 'Going Dutch' you'll learn to listen, read, write and speak in Dutch. Vocabulary and grammar are a big part of it too. You'll pick up things like colours, telling the time and counting in Dutch.
By the end, you'll be able to introduce yourself and talk about your studies, your family and your hobbies. And when someone speaks slowly and clearly about those things, you'll understand them.
A lot of what you learn comes up in everyday life. You'll be able to:
• make sense of signs on the street, at stations and in cafés and bars
• order in a café or restaurant
• send a quick message to thank someone
Getting your pronunciation right from the start matters, so we spend plenty of time on it. You'll learn the difference between short and long vowels, for example, and where the stress falls in words and sentences.
The grammar you'll cover includes:
• putting the subject, verb and other parts of a short sentence in the right order
• switching the subject and verb around, as in "Morgen ga ik naar college"
• the difference between the articles "de" and "het"
Certificate
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate showing the level you have attained.
