Cursusmateriaal Japans Spreekvaardigheid N5
The course material is written in English, so a basic understanding of English is needed.
Although your Japanese has to be at Level N5 to take the course, some basic grammar and vocabulary will be repeated. You will improve your Japanese language skills by holding debates on simple topics and giving a brief presentation in Japanese. This will allow you to communicate with more confidence.
The course is taught in Japanese and English.
The intake procedure for this course consists of: online intake conversation.
After you have enrolled for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure.
If you have completed the Japanese level 4 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
This course focuses on the following two language skills: speaking and listening. You will work on your speaking skills by taking about yourself, exchanging hobbies and experiences, and describing someone’s appearance and clothing, for example. You give a first impression of someone you do not know well. You learn how to arrange a party and invite guests. You talk about a dish you can recommend in a restaurant and about how to eat a particular dish.
You also learn more about the meanings of Japanese names and descriptions of restaurants and dishes.
By the end of this course, you will be able to exchange information, acquire new information and take part in short conservations. You will have improved your communication skills and are able to apply the language skills you have learned.
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate showing the level you have attained.

There is no difference in the course content and course material between the online and in class course, only a difference in format. The online courses take place via Zoom and the in class courses at the Roeterseiland in Amsterdam. By using breakout-rooms teachers will aim to provide the same interaction as during an in class course. In both formats students are expected to actively participate in the course.
The choice for an online or in class course depends on your personal preference for location and teaching style.
It is not possible to combine an online and in class course. If you start a course online, you will follow the entire course online. The same applies to in class courses. This is in order to ensure the peace in our classes and avoid a lot of changes between classes.
Students generally need to spend double the amount of time of the course on studying by themselves. This means that if your course is 40 hours of class, you can expect about 80 hours of homework and self study. In our experience, the more time you invest in homework, the more you benefit from your course.
In the week before the start of the course you will receive your final course confirmation which mentions your teacher.
